It is a medication indicated to stop androgenic alopecia. Initially its purpose was to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, but it was detected that one of its effects was to improve hair quality and stimulate hair production. Hence it began to be used to treat alopecia.
Post-Finasteride Syndrome (PFS) describes persistent sexual, neurological, and physical adverse reactions in patients who have taken finasteride, a 5-alpha reductase type II enzyme inhibitor used to treat hair loss (under the name Propecia or generics) or prostate enlargement (Proscar or generics). Unfortunately, SPF is a condition that has no known cure and few, if any, effective treatments. As increasing numbers of men report their persistent side effects to health and regulatory agencies around the world, the medical and scientific communities are only beginning to realize the magnitude of the problem.
